“The unimaginable has happened,” said the mayor of Blatten, an Alpine village in southern Switzerland that is now covered in tons of ice, rocks and debris from an enormous glacier landslide. Tropical Storm Alvin in the Eastern Pacific is the first tropical storm of 2025 in the Western Hemisphere. Moisture from this system's remnants could enhance rainfall in the Southwest U.S. this weekend.

Another round of rainy and cooler weather is expected to return to the Northeast Friday and continue into the weekend for many. A few severe storms may also develop Friday and Saturday and impact the I-95 corridor from Philadelphia to Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and Richmond. Heavy rain could lead to localized flooding as the ground is already saturated. Due to the rain, temperatures will remain below average, with highs only in the 60s and 70s.
